Dragonfly Tattoo Symbolism

Symbolism of Dragonflies

prosperity, good luck, strength, peace, harmony, purity

The dragonfly is a creature of the wing and thus represents change. It's iridescent wings are super sensitive to the slightest breeze, and reminds us to pay attention from where the wind blows - so to avoid running into stormy weather.

Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and creatures who make their homes in and around water symbolize the subconscious, or dreams of the mind and thoughts. Water is symbolic of the subconscious mind also relating to the thoughts we have in relaxed meditative and sleeping subconscious states.

Symbolic meanings of dragonflies are mostly associated in Asian / Japan and also Native American circles.

The Dragonfly lives a short life, and it knows it must live to the fullest with what it has. This lesson is huge for each of us.

The dragonfly knows she is standing on the vast watery depth of endlessly profound and potentially life-altering thoughts: The murky mass of thoughts that represent our primordial divinity – a virtual powder-keg of expansive expression.
The dragonfly is the pivot between earthly world and the spiritual world.  She is the balance keeper between the earthly being and the higher self.

Dragonflies carry messages from our deeper thoughts - and asks us to pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires.

When we consider the dragonfly's means of transportation the way it skitters across the top of water surfaces it  encourages us to look at any of our deeper thoughts that are surfacing and to be mindful of what outcome we wish to have. Thus it is a reminder that when our deeper thoughts come to the surface we need to pay attention as there is a lesson to be learned. We are also reminded that what we think is a direct relocation of what we see on the surface ...Our thoughts even the subconscious thoughts that we may not be as aware of as our conscious thoughts are responsible for what we see in our lives and our physical surroundings.

It is said a dragonfly landing on you is a deceased loved one come to visit.
